Introduction
Counter-Strike (“CS”) is a highly popular first-person shooter (FPS) video game that has captured the attention of gamers worldwide, particularly teenagers. Released in 2000, CS is one of the many iterations in the Counter-Strike series and has become a cornerstone of competitive gaming. The two most popular in the CS series are CS: Global offensive (CS:GO) released in 2012, and CS2, released in 2023. In CS:GO, the game pits two 5v5 teams, “Terrorists” and “Counter-Terrorists”, against each other in various objective-based game modes, such as defusing bombs or rescuing hostages, whereas CS2 is a round-based, 5v5 tactical FPS with an Attackers vs. Defenders setup and no respawns, meaning if a player is eliminated they will not respawn until the next round. What sets the CS series apart is its fast-paced, strategic gameplay that requires quick reflexes, team coordination, and tactical thinking. For many teenagers, CS is more than just a game; it's a social platform where they connect with friends, join teams, and compete in online tournaments. The game's vibrant community and competitive nature foster a sense of belonging and achievement, making it a significant part of teen culture. However, the intense competition and the pressure to perform can also lead to challenges, such as stress and exposure to toxic behavior online.
